The Original:

This is a Microsoft Train Simulator model of the Gooische Stoomtram coach no. 10, built in 1881/82 by Beijnes in Haarlem.

The Gooische Stroomtram was a standard gauge tramway system that linked Amsterdam with the region to the East called 'Het Gooi'. The company ran passenger trams from 1881 until 1947 when services were converted to buses. The tram played an important role in the development of the region, but was not loved by everyone: its nickname was 'De Gooische Moordenaar', i.e. the 'Murderer from Het Gooi'; it got blamed for each and every accident, even if it wasn't at fault.

When the Company was founded in 1881 no less than 28 coaches were ordered from the Beijnes coachworks in Haarlem, The Netherlands. These came in two types, with two and three clerestories. Capacity was 36 seated and 16 standing passengers in two classes. Coach no. 10 is an example of a two-clerestory vehicle.

The series 1- 28 were extensively rebuilt between 1900 and 1914. The bogies were replaced by new ones from WUMAG in Germany. Seven of the coaches were converted to open 'summer' coaches and renumbered as series 26 - 32. The remaining closed vehicles were renumbered as series 1 - 21, so that numbers 22 - 25 became available for other types.

Several of the series 1 - 21 were subsequently scrapped, so that eventually a new series 1 - 15 remained. These veterans were even repainted in the new colours of brown and primrose after 1930.

All of the series were scrapped by 1939, none have survived.

The Model:

The model was built and textured in 2002 by Jur Snijder using Abacus Train Sim Modeler, based on published photographs and a few basic measurements. Version 1.0 has no passenger view as yet.

The model contains approx. 1400 polygons. It represents the vehicle in the condition it would have been during the years 1914 - 1930 after the rebuild.

The couplers have been adapted to allow the use of the very sharp tram curves provided by the Xtracks add-on track package. In this case your locomotive will need similar coupling specifications in its .eng file.

Version history:

V 1.0: initial release (July 2002). This version does not have a passenger view.

V 1.1: an error in the length has been corrected.
